On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the Women’s Department of the Dynamic of Congolese Elite in Korea (DECOC) convened a pivotal workshop at Seoul COEX in Gangnam, under Ms. Francette Banza leadership, aimed at fostering dialogue and strategic planning around the theme of women’s empowerment. This initiative reflects DECOC’s broader commitment to advancing the socio-economic and cultural integration of Congolese women within the Korean context, while simultaneously reinforcing transnational solidarity and leadership development.
The workshop served as a dynamic platform for exploring future-oriented connections and collaborative frameworks that can enhance the agency and visibility of Congolese women in Korea. Participants engaged in critical discussions on empowerment strategies, including professional development, community engagement, and intercultural competence. Emphasis was placed on the importance of building sustainable networks that transcend geographic and cultural boundaries, thereby enabling women to leverage collective knowledge and resources in pursuit of shared goals.
Moreover, the event provided a valuable opportunity for newcomers within the Congolese diaspora to establish meaningful relationships with established members of the community. Through structured dialogue and informal exchanges, attendees shared personal experiences, cultural insights, and adaptive strategies for navigating Korean society. These interactions not only facilitated mutual understanding but also contributed to the cultivation of a supportive and inclusive environment, essential for the holistic empowerment of women.
The workshop underscored the significance of cultural exchange and community cohesion as foundational elements in the empowerment process. By creating spaces for dialogue and mentorship, DECOC’s Women’s Department continues to play a transformative role in shaping a resilient and forward-looking Congolese diaspora in Korea. The event at COEX thus stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the enduring relevance of gender-focused initiatives in diaspora communities.
